Holiday Heating Tips
12/10/2013
Save on your holiday heating bill this winter by following these simple tips:
- Take in the sunshine. Open your curtains and let the sun naturally heat your home.
- Cut the draft. Use a heavy-duty, clear plastic sheet on a frame or tape clear plastic film to the inside of your window frames during the cold winter months. Make sure the plastic is sealed tightly to the frame. You can also install insulating drapes or shades on windows that feel drafty.
- Lower the thermostat. When you are asleep or out of the house, turn your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees for eight hours and save around 10 percent a year on your heating and cooling bills.
- Seal the air leaks. Add caulk to seal air leaks around leaky doors and windows.
- Maintain your furnace. Schedule a regular tune-up for your heating system. Also, remember to replace your filters every month.
