Tips on Choosing the Right HVAC Contractor
6/12/2015
When it comes to choosing the right HVAC contractor, there are some things you should take into careful consideration. After all, it’s important to not let just any contractor handle your equipment, especially since it’s your hard-earned money that’s paying for it.
Don’t let your money go to waste; be proactive and make certain that the HVAC contractor you choose, whether it be Service Legends or another contractor, abides by these values:
1. Licensed, Bonded and Insured
HVAC systems don’t come cheap; they’re an investment. If taken care of properly, though, you should only have to replace your system once or twice in your lifetime. Because of how sophisticated HVAC systems are, it’s important to hire a reputable contractor that’s certified and has all the necessary credentials.
When searching for a company, look to see if they’re licensed, bonded, insured and have NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification.
- Licensed – An HVAC contractor that is licensed has been issued a trade-specific (HVAC) license that is in compliance with local and state laws. A license is given only if the contractor passes competency tests in skills and business practices, provides proof of insurance and bonding, and pays all applicable fees. Verify their license is up-to-date.
- Bonded – Your contractor should be bonded through a private third party or by the local municipality. Should an issue with the company arise, for example, property damage, it’s important your contractor be bonded.
- Insured – Have the prospective HVAC contractor provide proof of insurance. This document describes the types of insurance they have as well as the amount. Verify their insurance by calling their providers.
An additional certification you’ll want to look for is “NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Certification. This means your technician has exceeded the standard, going above and beyond to master his or her trade by passing rigorous tests designed by industry leaders. A NATE certified technician means the highest quality.
2. Background Checked, Drug Tested & Professionally Trained
When it comes to the safety of you and your family, don’t risk hiring a contractor that could compromise your peace of mind. A technician represents their employer, which means any technician that comes to your home should be drug-free, polite and courteous, and respectful of you and your home; anything less than that is simply frowned upon.
Choose a contractor that takes pride in their work and professional reputation. Look for the “Technician Seal of Safety” when researching contractors. At Service Legends, we believe in hiring only those who we would invite into our own home.
Each and every technician that we hire is professionally trained and remains up-to-date on all the latest technology and advanced techniques.
3. Upfront Pricing
A surprise party – fun. A surprise fee – not fun. Any HVAC contractor performing work on your home should always provide the price of the work before they begin. Any contractor who doesn’t believe in doing so is more than likely following such practices to get more money.
With Service Legends, you can expect to be given an exact “to the penny” price before our technicians proceed with any services. No surprises – and no add on fees, either. If we perform any work without giving you the exact price, the work will be completed at no cost to you.
Service Legends adheres to the strictest standards and practices in the service industry. Rest assured when a Service Legends technician arrives at your home, they are certified, have been background checked and drug tested, and will always offer upfront pricing.
